Members of SABS’ Youth Team tied in with Diabetes Scotland raising awareness, sharing knowledge and taking on diabetes together.
Interested in Peer Support in your community? Diabetes Scotland plans to offer peer support to people from the Muslim community.
Here, Sophia explains why she’s getting involved: “Although diabetes is a very prevalent issue within the South Asian community and my own family, there is not much support or guidance in order to prevent this from continuing. This has encouraged me to volunteer as a peer support facilitator, to gain some knowledge, while also providing support.
“Peer support groups are a safe environment in which people with diabetes can come together and gain specific information through relating with others. It provides a space in which people can interact on a practical level and discuss in confidence personal issues.
“Despite not personally suffering with diabetes, I can increase my knowledge in hopes of prevention, and relaying this to family and community.
