Address at the General Synod of the Scottish Episcopal Church 2019
The Scottish Episcopal Church held its General Synod, and invited Imam Sayed Razawi, Director General of the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society, to address it on Friday the 7th June 2019. As branches of a tree rooted in the Abrahamic tradition, and as ancient faiths now woven into the Scottish fabric, this coming together, with dignity, marked a historic moment in the engagement between the Scottish Shia communities and the Scottish Episcopal Church. We extend our fraternal gratitude to the Church, and in particular the Most Rev. Mark Strange, The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church and Bishop of Moray, Ross and Caithness, the Rev Canon Cedric Blakey, Convener of the Committee for Relations with People of Other Faiths, the College of Bishops, and the honourable members of the Synod. The ever-strengthening bond between Christians and Muslims in Scotland embodies lessons of conciliation, dialogue and cooperation that many across the globe would do well to contemplate upon in a world that is undergoing rapid change. The address at the General Synod is a milestone in a journey that began with a friendship with the Most Rev Dr Idris Jones, and which blossomed through interactions with benevolent People of the Book who felt a sense of responsibility, and undertook a duty of care, to the creation of God.
